Brent Berc
Thatch Founding Partner
Brent and Will co-founded Thatch in 2011 with the goal of filling a void in Boston's rental market. They share boss duties at Thatch and sister company Boston Real Estate Collaborative, investing, building, and managing a portfolio that spans the Greater Boston area. When not consumed by the world of real estate, Brent enjoys time with his family and friends and heavy dose of golf, cooking and travel. A dedicated runner, he has completed five marathons, nearly breaking the elusive three-hour mark! Brent lives in Brookline with his wife, Lena, and their three children. Boston Insider Tip: "Run the Charles River--it has to be one of the best running routes in any city, ever."
Will Avanessian
Thatch Founding Partner
Will and Brent co-founded Thatch in 2011 after identifying an opportunity to fill a void in Boston's rental market. As co-head of Thatch and sister company Boston Real Estate Collaborative, Will's focus primarily includes acquisitions, capital allocation questions and the entire development process. When he's not working, he enjoys reading, snowboarding, mountain biking and all things Arsenal Football Club related. A former Boston resident, Will now resides in the suburbs of Los Angeles, but returns to the East Coast for summers on the Cape. Boston Insider TIp: Experience the Boston Public Library. The main reading room (Bates Hall) is one of the best places in the world to read a book or do some work, and the courtyard will transport you and your thoughts elsewhere.
Amanda Smalley
Operations Associate
Amanda joined Thatch in 2019, lured by the opportunity to work for a small and unique real estate company that allows her to wear many hats across the business. Her responsibilities include financial and general oversight of Thatch’s portfolio, onboarding new properties, and quality control. Off the clock, Amanda enjoys horseback riding and travel; Byron Bay, Australia stands out as her favorite destination so far. She loves trying new restaurants, but has no patience for loud eaters. Amanda lives in Boston’s North End. Boston Insider TIp: “You won’t find better lobster raviolis in Boston than at Panza in the North End.”
Stephanie Avanessian
Director of Finance
Stephanie has been a part of the Thatch team since 2013. She is responsible for Thatch’s accounting and banking, and oversees the financial elements of the properties Thatch manages. Outside of work she loves snowboarding, the ocean, and her 3 daughters. Stephanie is an incredibly proud Troop Leader for nearly 20 Brownies. A former Boston resident, Stephanie now resides in the suburbs of Los Angeles, but annually returns to Massachusetts to summer in Cape Cod. Boston Insider TIp: The best view of the Boston skyline is coming into the harbor on a boat. Whether you take a ferry to the Harbor Islands, a whale watching tour, or just an evening harbor cruise, you won’t regret connecting the city to the sea.”
Corey Bradley
Head of Property Management
Corey has been part of the Thatch team since 2012. His responsibilities include asset management and leasing, acquisitions, and construction supervision. Outside of work, he’s a fan of any sport or activity that involves competition; exploring New England; and spending time with friends and family. Corey lives in Dorchester. Boston Insider Tip: “Looking to get outside? Go check out the Blue Hills Reservation hiking trails! A couple exits down 93 feels like you’re up in the mountains.”
Malcolm Osazuwa
Accountant
Malcolm first joined the Thatch team as an intern in 2016, and became our staff accountant in 2018. He was drawn to the company by his long standing friendship with Brent, his mentor since the fourth grade. Malcolm's responsibilities include overseeing Thatch's financial flow and ensuring all accounts are accurate and up to date. Outside of work, his hobbies include gaming, sports and cooking, especially pizza, which is his favorite food. Malcolm resides in the Back Bay and lives by the motto: "Strive to become the best version of yourself." Boston Insider Tip: I recommend one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, Anna’s Taqueria.
Geo Gonzalez
Property Manager
Geo joined the Thatch team in 2018 and leads our maintenance team. With an extensive background in property management, he’s in charge of keeping our buildings and units in tip-top shape. Outside of work, his hobbies include rooting for Boston sports teams and spending quality time with his wife and two kids. Born and raised in Boston, Geo currently resides in Dorchester. Boston Insider Tip: I recommend Merengue Restaurant. Very good Dominican food.
Paula Pinto
Leasing Assistant
A recent addition to the Thatch team, Paula assists our operations managers in overseeing our portfolio of co-living properties. Originally from Miami, Paula currently resides in one of Thatch's co-living homes in Fort Hill. When she's not at work, Paula loves exploring the city, seeing live music, and traveling--her best trip yet was a two-week adventure in Italy and Greece. Paula's very favorite food in New York Style Pizza, and her personal hero is her mom.
Scott Kirkwood
Project & Operations Manager
Scott joined our team in 2014, and leads the acquisition, development, financing and management of our construction projects. He was originally drawn to the company by Thatch's modern take on housing and the collaborative vision around the design and construction of each project. Outside of work, Scott's hobbies include hiking, fishing, gardening and dabbling in studio art. He calls Charlestown home. Boston Insider TIp: I recommend one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants, Pho 2000. Make sure to order the special catfish when you’re there!
Ryan Taylor
Property Manager
Ryan joined Thatch in 2015. His role involves coordinating maintenance, repairs and improvements on our buildings. Off the clock, Ryan likes completing home improvement projects, landscaping and hanging out with his kids. He lives with his family in Sharon, MA. Boston Insider Tip: “Check out Brattle Book Shop (9 West Street, Boston). Great place to find rare used books, or something to read while in town.”
Will Hearty
Operations Associate
Will joined Thatch in 2019. He oversees our co-living portfolio in Boston and helps manage our LHP portfolio in Everett and Malden. Outside of work, Will is into staying active by playing golf and doubles squash, road biking and skiing. His plans to run the 2020 Boston Marathon were put on hold for now, but not forever. Will once lived in Wyoming, where he worked for an elk outfitter and cattle operation. He now calls Allston home. Boston Insider TIp: “I think one of the most underrated fast-casual restaurants in Boston is anoush’ella in the South End.”
Luana Morato
Administrative Assistant
Luana has been working at Thatch for almost a year. Her responsibilities include helping with the administrative and accounting tasks in the office and keeping everyone happy by suppling an endless amount of snacks. Outside the office, Luana enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family. Luana resides in Brookline. Boston Insider Tip: “Watch the New England Teams play at the stadiums. It is an incredible experience and the fans are really passionate.”
