Thatch on Charles has a rich history. It was originally built in 1860 as a single family “model home” to help market the development and sale of townhomes in the soon-to-be-filled Back Bay area of Boston. Back then, the Back Bay was still covered by the Charles River. Once the landfill and sellout were completed in 1867, the building was sold to Joseph Miller and family, who occupied it as their primary residence for over 100 years. In 1999, the townhouse was renovated and converted to the Charles Street Inn, a 9-unit, Victorian-style bed and breakfast. In 2013, Thatch purchased the Charles Street Inn and converted it into an apartment-style hotel. Today, the building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and the architecture of the entryway and common stair remain largely intact as they were in 1860. Thatch on Charles serves as a home-away-from-home for travelers of all kinds, blending modern conveniences of an apartment-hotel with rich Boston history.
