Not all the details of 304 Newbury Street’s history are known, but it has been a mixed-use building with commercial below and residential above for many years. Thatch acquired it in 2012 when the mother of one of Thatch’s founding partners struck up a conversation with the former owner who happened to mention that he was interested in selling it. Having had recent success with the conversion of a nearby apartment building to short-term rentals, Thatch was keen to buy and renovate this building given its highly desirable location. At the time, short term rentals for nightly stays was still a new concept but very popular nonetheless. The historic brick façade remains intact, but inside has all new finishes and systems plus new windows.
